The summer is past - It has been a very favorable season - the best for corn & oats that has been for a num ber of years - Grass rather (__) probably on account of the drought last fall and the hard winter - Flour 4.25 Corn 62 1/2, Oats 325.
September 1 Pleasant - Lizzie Wilson started to the Institution - Phila [following written, then crossed out] Amos commenced to cut clover but took sick
2 Pleasant air with hot sun Finished John Campbells wagon. Amos commenced to cut 2nd crop clover, took sick & went home

Warm - John Campbell took wagon away - Jno Harveys ox died in yoke - Appear ance of rain to night
4 Jonathan sick - Hauled in load of hay - Went to Elkton in afternoon and took supper with mother - Miss Laura went home
5 Sunday - Pleasant day John went with Covington to Newark - Joseph T. Brown preached at New Leeds - Andrew Terry buried. Mrs Morris here all night.
6th Cool in morning - Went to Benj Miller's & H F. Scarborough's & to Mosley - Milly went home with Mrs Morris - mowed 2nd crop clover

7th Sept Fine weather - Went to see Hornders(?) & Garrett - J.W. Simpers paid $3. Hugh Mearns died
8-- Went in morning to see Saml Hanna - Milly came home heard of murder in Sassafras Neck - Went with W. G. Carter - C.P. Mills - & to Marley - engaged to make wagon bed 11 feet long 40 inches wide in inside 17 inches height of sides. Saml Hanna sent me $10. John Mackey called and talked all the afternoon about lobilia and the tariff. John Garrett paid $3. Received letter from Wm McClelland
