1849 august 19 quite cool this morning. my wife gone to Mrs McCullocks & Catharine S to go to school with Mildred Ann E. McC they Board her for nothing Milly stays here some & so change about, cloudy

20th Milly Ann E. McCullock starts to school to Mrs Walkup same Terms as Catharine S. Raised Henrys House & Forage House near stable Succoring & worming Tobacco this day —

21st Henry & Fed gone to Mrs Lewis to Raise Barn Succoring & worming Tobacco etc etc as Hot a day & night as I ever felt in my life I think some little appearance of Rain in but did notevening

22nd clear morning a little foggy in South Topping Tobacco worming & succoring This day Fanny W. went to charlotte with miss Ruths & Jno D Hunt, started last Thursday -- still Hot Mr Martin a clock Doctor stayed here last night fixed clock in sitting room gave him a $1- for it

23 Worming Tobacco & Grubing in new ground Henry Hewing down Barn & this House A fine Rain in evening, Lila after morningspining

24. Same work to day. nearly done grubing

25 Fanny W. returned from charlotte worming Tobacco this morning Shrubing corn field. Henry halling Rails for hog pen

26 went to association Buffaloe clear hot day

27 Henry sick, shrubing corn field

28 worming & succoring Tobacco, & toping Henry still in House clear & dry - Jerry had Crofe Croup last night verybad,

29. scraping off wheat yard this morning worming & succoring Tobacco. clear & dry Toping tobacco. - went to Mrs Colemans to Hillfield to see Mr East.

30th & 31st Augt. worming & succoring Tobacco Machine came here 31st from Mr Lewis’s about 11 oclock & by the time we got a start it commenced Raining, & Rained a good shower we carried the wheat with straw after we discover=ed that it was going to be wet we then wound up & it Rained sure enough till innightthe

1st Sept. ground very wet & the machine doing nothing spining etc etc — Began to machine wheat between 1 & 2 oclock in evening till night put up 4 Stacks straw Kit & Mr. Lewis 3 hands come ——

2 Fannie W. & Cate went to Greenfield Jerry Better than he has been for several days

3. began again to Thrash wheat fine day Kit Mr Lewis s 3 Hands & 2 from Mrs Hunts came & we finished & carried the machine to James Whiteheads got done about night 1½ days Thrashing Our crop wheat

4 alse & Ann gone to Mrs Coleman to Pull fodder & its Turned out to be cloudy & a little rainy, succoring & worming Tobacco Henry gone to Mrs Hunt after 10½ Bushels corn making 4 Bbls lent me — Fanned out some wheat to make flour this morning — alse & ann returned at 12

5. worming & succoring & toping Tobacco on Branch & Lot. Henry gone to Glenns Mill 10 Bus. wheat for flour 5½ Bus. corn for meal. Turned cooler. I am going to Mrs McCullocks & Riceville to day —

6 Pulling Blade fodder after morning all hands my wife went to Mrs Colemans

7 alse gone to Mrs Colemans to Pull fodder worming & succoring Tobacco in new ground Fair & cool this morning ⅓ done Pullingfodder Mr Myers & Henry getting slabs, Tying up fodder This evening.

Oct 4th 1849 Cutting Tobacco firening Tobacco gathering Pumpkins etc ——

5. We will cut our Tobaccoall this morning but our new Lot & big new ground firing 3 Barns worming & succoring over Lot & new ground

6 Rained nearly all day - spining shoemaking

7 quite cool & cloudy no frost yet, - my Nannie & FW gone to Mrs Colemans to day

8 Halled up a Load of corn & shucked it out & began to throw down Tobacco Hill, to sew wheat Halled up some Tobacco

9 Fanned out 30 Bushels wheat & waggon started to Lynchg. returned on Friday 12th

10 & 11 & 12 we were cutting down corn to sew wheat & cutting & Pulling our Tobacco

13 Saturday Hanging & throwing down Tobacco Hills riving Tobacco sticks -

14 went to meeting, on 12th it Rained all day

15 went to Court, finished Hanging Tobacco 3 Plows Plowing in fresh ground for wheat weather moderate

16 Began to sew wheat in Big second years Land - Fanning out wheat Tobacco& housing upwards of 400 sticks in little Barn. 1400 in prize Barn 1300 in new Barn middle Barn full to day 900 in that, & sticks out of Big new ground sent to mountain, field Barn

17th Finished Fresh land in Tobacco sewed & Bush not quite done choping around the stumps Sewed there nearly 5½ bushels.——

18th Shoemending cleaning out stables & halling Rails for hog pen, Lila & Jane spining Rained all night & nearly all day to day Jordan gone to mill. Mr John D Hunt gave my wife a lovely colt which we called FCg Hester Ann

1849 Oct. 26 Stoped Jacob from going to Oct school Mr Shelton gone to Court. he has gone nearly 4 months,

From 26 Oct to Novr 1st shoemaking spining, nearly all the time ground very wet

1st Nov began to sew wheat left side of Path by middle Barn cut down & stacked up the corn, Fed shoemaking -

2 Sewing wheat - & same work

3 Same work & gathered corn below House

4th Beautiful weather rather warm my wife gone to Mrs Hunts 1849

5 Sewing wheat & finished next to middle Barn

6. Bushing & finished by middle Barn runing furrows etc fine weather —

7 Harrow in & Plowing balance fresh ground next to Orchard — carried my Leather & Boots to Mrs Nealy fine weather alse cleaning out water furrows in bottom next to middle Barn

8th Raining this morning spitiface the man Hogwhite sow took with some others - cloudy & moderate weather Fed nearly done shoemaking Henry halling wood 3 spining 2 shelling etc etc etc Note quite done sewing wheat

9 Finished sewing wheat sewed 2 Bus.on branch we have sewed 30 Bushels Halling up corn & shoemaking - windy weather

10. Shucking out corn & Housing cleaning up on Ditch in Tobacco Lot where we sewed wheat

11 good day for meeting

12.th Halling up corn & Pulling

13. Trod Mr Neals wheat Pulled Halled & shucked corn —

14 Housing corn to day. Henry & Fed working on Road, Jordan gone to mill

1850 Jany 4th & 5th cutting big growth in new ground went to Mrs Coleman Grastys & McCullocks cold weather - 6th. cloudy & like for snow

7th cloudy & Raining this morning. striping Tobacco in middle barn to day -

12th Striped Tobaccofrom 7th to 12th cutt etc———in prize Barn &

12th Cutting Big growth Henry gone to mill Card 1 Large Log for flooring Plank 5 Bus corn

13th cloudy & like for snow, cold

14. Snowed last night very bad night snow about 2 Inches Deep still cloudy Striping Tobacco in prize barn

15. Finished striping prize Barn this morning my wife & F W. gone to Mrs Hunts clear & cool to day — snow not melted much

16 cutting Big growth in new ground began to Rain in evening

17. striping Tobacco in new Barn

18. striping in Do Do took all the lugs down in middle barn, cloudy & raining littlea

19 Halled leaves & straw & shucks

20. Rained in evening & I stayed all night at Bro Stonestarted to Court

21 Rained all night & till nearly 11 Oclock went to Court House & got home that night Finished striping in mountain field barn & then striped in new barn at home.

22nd cutting in new ground, Henry gone to mill 1 Bbl corn & 2 Logs - for Hhd Staves

23 Cutting in new ground all day —

24 Henry prizing Lugs Balance cutting cloudy & like for Rain —— Warm

25. trying to Finish Lug Hhd to day prize all Lugs from mountain field barn prize barn & prizing them in middle barn
