1849 June 12th Went to S. S. M H. to try Thos East for stealing Stephen Redgrages oats. got clear from evidence, - Plowed Peas & corn Plowed drillcorn second time by middle barn, & below Plum bushes Weeding drill corn next to orchard - Cloudy damp weather -

13. Plowed out Garden Sweet Potatoes cotton Irish Potatoes, begun to lay for tobaccoof[f] Lot. weeding & Plowed fresh ground next to orchard

14. Beding Lot this & thining drillJust Plowed corn

15. Finished Planting Tobacco & Replanted all new ground & little second yrs ground weather warm & moist - Working cotton & branch corn to day Plowing & weeding. Finished weeding cotton this 12 oclock & gone on branch Hot weather about this time —

16 Rained a little last evening. Weeding & resetting corn on Branch where missing. Planting watermellons simblingPumpkins Potatoes setting out some Beet, Turnip, screan the seed of which Mr Tucker said came from DenmarkDenmark

17 Fine clear weather, Finished yesterday weeding out Branch. Corn, not quite done weeding corn yet. began to Plow Hill next to orchard, second time also next to 18woods by middle Barn, replanting corn on 19. Branch Lower part, - done weeding & Plowing our corn second time one this side branch & began second time on the other side branch runing 4 Plows, weeding or Hilling up Sweet Potatoes etc - clear weather nights cool, great talk of mad Dogs this Spring. cholera about very much this Spring Mr C. A Hunt Died of it at Independence Mo. on his way to California, - its now in Richmond Va Extra session Legislature moved toto finishFauquier Cty

1849 July 13th weather fair & warm Finished laying by corn 11th except a little on the Spring sprang branch

14 yesterday we cut oats Had Mr Pannills Ennis, did not get done this morning Halling up wheat Fems hid - Halling up our wheat & Halling up sweet Potatoes by Carriage Weather warm & clear fine time indeed for crops, Finished Hilling sweet Potatoes

15 Very cool windy weather went to see Mr. Angel to day carried him the contribution sent by the church $4.12½ ½ Bbl & 3 Bushels wheat

16 Weeding Tobacco Finishing in Lot. Henry & Lila Plowing fresh ground Tobacco. Jacob started to school again

17. Hilling up Big new ground Tobacco Finished little one this morning. Plowing second yrs land Tobacco & will get done that this morning. working pickling cucumbers going to Plow small corn on Branch & Finished laying by Plowing Lots of Tobacco - It has been cool nights & mornings ever since last Saturday 14th. ,-

18. Finished Plowing lots to day Hilling up new ground, - & choping young corn on branch

19 carried waggon to shop got 2 Horses shod Hilling upseveral out S. S. M. Housenew ground - cloudy & like for Rain

20. Hilling new ground Halling up Sills for Henrys House, & logs for Tobacco House Plowed out & worked garden The 13th Inst somebody came & stole a Bee Gum from us carried up hear by old field took the Honey out [k]nocking the Gum all to ps first

21st Hilling up Fresh ground Tobacco & Halling up Logs for Barn - cloudy for Rain& like

1949 July 31st Cutting & Halling Logs began at 12 oclock to worm & top Tobacco, Rained a little in evening. Heavy Rain at Mrs Colemans where I was

August 1st Toping Tobacco Plowing & working Lots of Tobacco staining[?] Logs for Barn Sewed Turnip Patch this day, also Sewed Turnip seed in⌃new Tobacco Lot

2nd Henry Fed & Jane geting sills for Barn Butting. Halling up etc for Barn the Balance Plowing & Hilling up Branch tobacco & also Lot. Sewed Turnip seed on Branch this day clear & fair nights a little cool

3 Fast day & we all went to S. S. M H Hilling up Tobacco in evening & squaring Logs

4 Squaring Logs Finished Hilling up Tobacco choping in cotton began to Rain in evening a fine Rain & continued till in the night & most all night - warm fine weather

5. Raining again this morning & Foggy

6 cloudy this morning Rained last night in the night fine warm days my waggon started to Lynchg this morning for Mr. Lewis, clear & warm. Finished cutting for barnLogs Toping & worming Tobacco chopping out Garden

7 Clearing fine morning Toping Tobacco & Grubing on Johns Branch Finished toping Tobacco yesterday Halling Balance Logs for Barn Henry did not get back last night,

9 Halling Logs - & Rocks for Pavement in yard & Grubing on Johns Branch cloudy & like Rainfor

10 Grubing with 4 hands on Johns branch Henry returning yesterday evening gone 4 days.

1851 Aprl 10th Have been coltering & Hilling Halling Rails at stony point & making up fence Plowing cotton Patch etc Rained Tuesday - (Hester, & Celam,) yesterday etc,

11th Fencing & finished at stony point & Plowing for corn there - cloudy sent Fed to mill 1 Bbl

12 walked to meeting at Strait Stone on SaturdayLaying off to Plant Corn & Hilling in ground new

13th Raining & Hailing a little very cool

14th carried sheep to stony point ground very wet moving Gate makingLane etc Fencing about House Made Bridge & working on the Hill Lains towards Piled Our manure first Last week —

15. Sewed flax Planted Sweet Potatoes got 2½ Bus Plowed up Hard spots on Hill & in the evening began to Plant Corn at stony point

16th Planting corn at stony point again - & ground so wet we cant finish there, planting in fresh field,- quite cool weather moderated

17th Hilling in new ground 3 Plows fixing corn ground

18th Planting corn in cover field & at stony point Federick Halling 2 Loads of manure to stony weather still Looks unsettled little cloudy Nearly done planting corn at Mrs McCullocks

19th Planting corn at Stony point & at mountain field & finished at both places Planting this evening Lost at home by Granary, Planting Snaps Pumpkins simblings etc left corner above Gate for Peas; Planting Goober Peas — cleared off not much Rain weather moderate We will get nearly done Planting corn & hthis evening except some wet spots in fresh ground etc etc etc Planted nearly 4 Bushels Corn

21st Very cool wind from N. E. for 2 days Just beforenight yesterday wind shifted to S W & no frost to hurt last night but cant tell how it will be to night,- done nearly planting corn Sweet Potatoes etc etc at Mrs McCullocks, - grown Heifers 3 steers

22nd Turned out this morning 4 young Heifers 2 [m?] the Bull, Bet suckled & Rose 14 in all

1851 Augt 1st Fine Rain, shrubbing corn land Henry toped Poplars etc etc this day

2nd Fixing grain yard, worming fresh ground Tobacco. & then shrubing Henry Hewing gate Post & Halling some up from mountain & some wood, still cloudy & like for Rain

4th Finished Shrubing Corn Land & sewed Buck Wheat this day or rather 3rd —

5 Began to Dig Ice House 12 Oclock yest=erday & a Rain fine one last night, most too late for Corn & tobacco too, tho both coming out very much still cloudy & like for Rain

6th I went to Mrs McC & Mrs Coleman too, finished Digging Ice House Halled Gate Gate Post for Horse Lot etc etc

7th my wife gone to Mrs C. & John D Hunts put up Gate at Horse Lot, Covering Tobacco Barn in fresh ground & working new ground Tobacco & Halling Logs for Ice House etc etc

11th choping & Hilling up new ground Tobacco & Plowing Lots about House, cloudy & like for Rain, very warm weather fine for Corn

16. we had a fine Rain first of last week every thing has improved corn has come out very much also Tobacco, we have during the past week Plowed in Tobacco some worked this Lost back of Garden wormed & Succored over & Toped our Tobacco & gone to meeting, some has gone every day for a week yesterday, - & the meeting still continues, 4 or 5 professed etc etc this day is Clear & fair, & warm

19th A fine Rain last night, we are fixing to raise a Barn getting slabs etc choping in the new ground, meeting still going at S. Stone 4 or five more professed

20th Rained nearly all day yesterday last night & still continues to Rain this morning women spining Owen gone to mill 1 Bbl Corn sentfor me, Fed & Henry gone to Mrs McCs to raise barn rained so they will come home certainly after awhile
