1866 Aspen Grove Feby 7th Henry &claiborne, his son […] Bees this morning hot here before 9 […] Safe, little Henry Halling wood. balance […] in new ground, cloudy & cold like for snow Billy getting Garden Post this morning & Just set in to work. very cold

8th. I went to Cedar Hill to day, & went to Rolands - our folks finished new ground fence & then Halled Leaves little Henry Plowing - Double Plow Billy Hewed Garden Post & making Door to Bee House this evening - did not finished it

9. Halled Leaves again this day Henry plowing Halled up Garden Post & forks for Horse rack Billy fixed Bee House door, made Bench Horse & put up Horse Rack, Beautiful weather Pride Hunt started to new London to school Jerry carried him, over there, fine weather

10th Halled Rails out of new ground & finished new ground fence, etc Henry Plowing & broke his Plow I went to Strait Stone meeting fine weather

11th Kate & Mr Moses Came here last night we went to meeting to day fine moderate weather my young sow that has been sick so long had 4 Pigs last night & I did not know she was in that way at all, - we drove the mules to Car. =riage to day to Strait stone, they pulled fine

12th. Rained some, Rolled Logs to day in new ground & ps in fresh ground, above Neals old Barn put up 15 or 20 small heaps only 4 small heaps in new ground Jerry help us with 2 hands send some Pea Hulls down for Sheep & got 2 waggon wheels from Big McHaney waggon to Hall wood - etc

13th. claiborne Henry & Ben shrubing in fresh field Little Plowing in Lot back of old prize Barn I went up to Cedar Hill got some Peach sci[?] home set them back of smoke house done up back of our chimney - I found Jacob P Graves

8 Dick & Alex cutting wood - worming & succoring Tobacco, getting up & Beeting some Crabs. I went to meeting - clear weather

9th I went to meeting Sunday

10 Pulling fodder I went to CH on business of Estate & for myself etc about children going to school & certificates of savings Bank Dick & Alex cutting wood

11 They are do same & malling wood worming & succorring Tobacco cloudy & like for rain Pride gone to old place & Mrs Colemans to make arrangements for the children all to start to C.H. to school to G.D. Neal

Sept 12th I went to meeting House about H Templeton & G. Pearcy - & to the shop had my horse shoes changed Billy here at work this mon morning clear moderate day & weather Pride & Doran Mattie & alice left yesterday for school at CH

13th Daubed up & cleaned out old prize Barn, & then Pulling fodder & tying up, etc Dick & Alex Pulling fodder from 10 Oclock till night. Billy Hunt Sew here to day -

14 I went to old place & Jerrys our folks pulling fodder Dick & Alex all day tying Billy Hunt Sew shoemaking - clear day

15th taking Care of fodder stacks 1 stack

16th. I started to Court Saturday I went Rice to see Bro Brown about Bro Pearcy & Templeton

17th At Court Monday our folks stacking fodder fodder Tying up Tops making scaffold to Cut Tobacco, cloudy & warm weather Dick & Alex cutting & put wood Cutting Tobacco in new ground Dick & Alex Cutting wood

1870 Jany 7th I went to Wm Shields Mount Airy & carried 1 load for Jacob to Whitehead Store went to shop also & had some work done

8th Jany 1870 I went to meeting S. S. & about 2 oclock, my wife sent after me again Sam gilbert was set to Halling wood & such a fuss raised as he had at Mount Airy when I sent him with the waggon to move Jacob PG up to whitehead Store I came home & all business was stoped watching Sam & my wife & Sallie scared ½ to death, Sallie & her children stayed all night up in sitting room

9th On account of Sams doing yesterday I did not go to meeting, to day - tho Sam appears to be right as far as I can see

10thSam culling in new ground Nannie smartly Complaining Richard fixing to move to Waterloo tomorrow Sam fixing to burn plant Bed in new ground in the morning fine weather the Ditchers are getting along I think rather slowly

11th Richard whitehead moved to day & Sallie are at home to night, Nannie Complaining yet Sam started to burn Plant Bed soon this morning finished burning by night John Keatts at work on house at mountain spring to day daubing & finishing chimney very pretty day. weather moderate

12th I went to Yates Mill Carried 4 Bus. Corn 5 Bus. wheat 2½ Bus Chop stuff for myself got the Corn Meal & chop stuff & 1 Bus meal for Sam Carried also 2 Bus. wheat for Richard whitehead did not get no flour for ourself nor him Sam Hoed up plant Bed to day now ready to sow But a young no horned cow & sook has calves at this time Sewed it & trampled it

1834 March Saturday 15th I Jeremiah W Grave Gave in my Experience Before the church of Christat Strait Stone meeting House & on Sunday the 16th Baptised, by Rev Jno W Kelly my wife Joined the same church by letter from Elk Creek Church in Louisa cty Some time before ———— The Rev John Billingsly - about the time she was was 17 or 18 years old.

1834 weather in aprl generally dry till about the 1st May - on the 5th may it rained smartly,- & in the Evening about 3 or 4 oclock it rained a very hard shower & hailed for about Ten minutes. 3 minutes of said, it hailed quite hard ground very nearly covered, the hail was generally small tho a great many was as Large as a Patridge Egg & some Larger

May 14th 1834 pretty smart frost this mor= =ning bit down all vegetables very much smartly snaps etc. May 15 Thursday this morning smart frost not so severe as yesterday morning & to night appears to be rather colder than the 2 preceding nights,- it has been cold & windy ever since the Hail

but continues quite cool — Corn and some the bushes is but very much coolest may so far that I ever recollect to have seen

Novr 14th 1837 Sky Red & streaked from W to NW & NE great sight to me

The 18th day of Novr 1840 it snowed all day we have Just finished Seeding wheat & getting on Shucking Corn began to strip Tobacco 19th 1833 March JWGraves was Baptised by Bro John W Kelley pastor of said church

1844 May 18th My wife Nancy R Graves gave her experience to the Baptist Church church at Strait Stone & upon a profession of her Faith was Baptised by JasT McL aughline. the Pastor of said church JW Graves
