Transcription Conventions
- Page numbers: Change the page number at the top to the blue number stamped on the page if you can read it.
- Spelling: Modify spelling, capitalization and punctuation to current, searchable standards
- Illegible words: If you can't read a word, type [??]. If you wish to guess, type [??word]
- Word Breaks: When a word is hyphenated at the end of a line, put the whole word on that, or the next line.
- Line Breaks: Hit

once after each line ends. Two returns indicate a new paragraph, whether indicated by a blank line or by indentation in the original. No other formatting. - Margin Notes: Where author has inserted a margin note describing the topic, type [Margin note: text] on a line preceding the relevant paragraph
- Columnar Info: Type all connected information (name, $) found in the first column, using a space or tab to separate information, then double space and continue the second column below the first, creating a long page.
- When finished: Click "Save," not "Done"
"Autolink" will suggest subjects certain words could be linked to or you can use double braces to link subjects. [[Jane Doe]]
will link the text "Jane Doe" to the subject Jane Doe, while [[Jane Doe|Jane]]
will link the text "Jane" to the subject Jane Doe. We recommend that linking be left to an editor after the initial transcription is made.
