May 2, 1864 - May 11, 1864

2 May 1864. Planted cotton, Irish potatoes,
watermelon, pumpkin, simbling seed, etc.
& broomcorn. Halling out manure
on lot. Collering new ground piney
Delvd Mr. Pringle pork & no. 4o [unclear]
Very severe wind here this evening
not much rain yet 4 o'clock

6 May 1864 Claiborne came home & Bill
last night - about dark 4th from working
on the breast works Richmd & Danville
finished halling out maure & coller
piny field new ground yesterday
This morning scattering manure
& fixing to plant susan cane seed
peas & corn on Sat.

12th. Hester had a mule mare colt
Forest Jack the 7th May 1864.
We sowed oats on creek yesterday
Hilling 2nd years ground. Rained
smartly this morning, ground too
wet to go on sowing —

11th. They have been fighting on the Rap-
idan & Fredg & all about Richmond for
for [sic] about 10 days & still at it. We
are hilling & collering new & fresh
ground, _ it has rained some nearly
every day since the began to fight
