The Church at Hephzibah Meeting House was constituted into a regular Church by Elders John Peurify + John Gully and they elected Elder John Peurify Pastor

North Carolina } To all whom it may concern Wake County } We whose names are subjoined being duly called as a presbytery have examined into the character, the call and qualifications of our beloved brother Josiah Crudup and with the consent of the Baptist Church of Christ at Hephzibah Meeting House to which he belongs, and by Prayer, fasting and imposition of hands have set him apart to the important work of the Ministry. He is hereby authorized to enjoy all the privileges and to perform all the duties attached to the Ministerial function whereever he may be called, either occasionally or statedly. Lee Wilder who had been excommunicated for a false charge against Johnson Britt, came forward and acknowledged before the Church that he believed the sd. Britt to be innocent of the charge, and wished the Church to forgive him; the Church therefore restored sd. Wilder to fellowship again.

Association. --
Ordered that Johnson Britt get a blank Book of Records for the use of the Church, and that the Church pay for the same.

Restored William Fowler upon confession of error + repen-tance; who had been excommunucated for Drunkenness.--
Brother Rightman Hilliard, John Parker + Joseph Shaw was appointed by the Church to see and enquire of brother Lee Wilder the cause of his long absence from the Church, and to enquire into the state of his mind, and citw him to attend at our next Conference, and for the above Committee to make Report thereof; also to enquire into the report of his abusing his Wife.
March Meeting 1815
The Com. above appointed for to enquire into the cause of brother Wilders long absence, the state of his mind, and the report of his abusing his Wife, submitted the following report: That they had seen brother Wilder and conversed with him relative to the above charges, and he informed them that he wished the Church to exclude him. The Church agreed to wait on him until next meeting, and appoin -ted Cade Alford + James Nowell to converse a second time with him on the subject and make report to our next meeting.
April Meeting 1815
Conference being opened, brother Newell Reported to the Church, that he had seen brother Lee Wilder, and demanded of him his reasons for non attendance at the Church. no satisfactory answer given; further if he did not wish to con-

8 -tinue in the Church; answer given by brother Wilder that he did not wish to continue in any Church, and therefore wished the Church to excommunicate him.
The Church therefore excommunicated the said Wilder for non attendance, for the sin of abusing his Wife and confessing that it was his desire to be expelled from the Church. At the same time the Church entered into a Resolution, that if any member of this Church should be absent two meetings of Conference in succession, that one or two members should be appointed to see such member or members, and enquire of them the reasons of their non attendance, and cite them to attend the next conference to answer in all such failures. At the same time brother Cade Alford informed the Church that Peyton Alford a brother of the Church, has absented himself for several Meetings. Brother Amos Horton was appointed to go and see the sd. brother Alford and know the reason of his absence from the Church and cite him to attend at our next meeting and answer to the Church for his non attendance.

Brother Amos Horton who was appointed to see brother Peyton Alford relative to his non attendance at the Church, reported as follows, that he has seen brother Alford, on the subject of his non attendance, and that he said his Wife had been in a low state of health which was the cause of his absence from the Church, and cited the said brother Alford to attend conference at our ear-ly meeting - the brother failed to attend, information reaching the Church, that the situation of his Wife requir-ed him to attend at home, which was satisfactory to the Church.
[Underlined] It was agreed at the same time that the Deacons [end underline] of the Church should be exempt from all Church expenses except that of supporting the Sacramental Table.

9 The Church in Conference agreed in favour of a Singing School being opened and held in our Meeting House agreeably to request, provided the Teacher would keep good order in sd. Meeting House during the continuance of his School, and oblegate himself to make all damages good, if there should be any to the Meeting House done during the Continuance of his School by Students or Visitants. None Recd. At the same time brother Burwell Bell from the X Roads Church Wake Co. brought forward an accusation against brother William Fowler of this Church for writing + publishing two letters which the sd. brother Bell deemed calculated to injure his reputation; Brother Fowler confesses he was wrong for writing such Letters, in consider -ation of which the parties dissatisfied appeared to be recon-ciled, and each have the hand of fellowship. --
At the same meeting our respected Pastor said he would be glad to know the mind of the Church respecting the general meeting altering certain Clauses of the Constitution in order thereby for it to be more favourable; it was left to votes, -- Male voters 15 against the Meeting and 7 in favour in taking the female votes a majority appeared in favour of the general Meeting.
August Meeting 1815
Recd. by experience + Baptised Clary a Servant of John Richardson. At the same time Rightman Hilliard, William Fowler + Johnson Britt were appointed by the Church to take notice of disorderly people that visited the Meeting, such as being Spirits to sell or drink, and if such persons did not desist cause the law to be put in force against them, and

10 all others who act contrary to the Laws of our Country in time of Publick Worship. At the same time John Parker and Johnson Britt were chosen as delegates to the next Association unanimously agreed that fifteen shillings be sent to the Association fund, and that Johnson Britt prepare a letter to send to the next Association. --
September Meeting 1815
Restored Lucy a Sister of Colour who had been excommunica-ted for the sin of Adultery by professing to have repented for her Sin, also professing to have a hope that she was pardoned for the transgression. It is the mind of the Church that the above named member take non other Husband so long as her former Husband liveth. Dice [?] a Sister of Colour expelled for con-cealing stolen property, for falsehood, and for contradicting a white Sister. Recd. at the same time by experience + Baptised Matthew Strickland. --

Disappointed on account of the Association at Rocky Spring Johnson County.
November Meeting 1815
William Fowler informed the Church of his having a dispute with a man by the name of Masse and that he the said Fowler struck the sd. Masse with the Britch of his Gun layed over for further Consideration. At the same time a charge was brought against Jeffrey a brother of Colour, a servant of James Hinton, for running away amd disobeying his Master. At the same time recd. a Letter from the Church at Poplar Spring (Franklin Co.) requesting help to settle some difference which had arisen in the Poplar Spring Chuch. The Church therefore appointed Johnson Britt & Lott Ro-bertson to attend at Poplar Spring Meeting House in Franklin Co. in friday before the third Lords day in Decr. next to aid in settling the same.

Conference opened, the case of William Fowler taken up. The Chuch understanding that the said Fowler acted improper in staying at Muster until after night, and struck the aforesaid Massey with the Breach of his Gun, and disfigured his face without a sufficient cause, the sd. Fowler not making any confessions of sorrow or repentance was excommunicated from the fellowship of this Church

12 May Meeting 1816.
Brother Gay appeared before the Church, and acknowl-edged the charge against him to be just, and professed Repen-tance and was forgiven. The case of Brother Peyton Alford was laid over until next Meeting, also the case of Lucy a Sister oc Colour laid over until next Meeting.
George a brother a Colour who had been expelld for running away, and disobedience to his Master, came forwd. and made acknowledgements to the Church for his disobedience and was restored to fellowship again.
June Meeting
The case of brother Peyton Alford taken up and laid over until next Meeting; but the Church agreed that brother Jesse Horton should go and see the sd. brother and know of him if it was his wish to obtain a letter of dismission from this Church and join the X Roads, or that the complaint brought against him should be acted on and to cite the sd. brother to attend at our next meeting of Conference on Saturday before the second Lords day in July next. The case of Lucy a Sister of Colour taken up and laid over until our next meeting for further considera-tion.

The Church in Conference: The Case of brother Peyton Alford taken up. Brother Jessee Horton reported to the Chuch that he had seen brother Alford, and he informed him that he did not wish to leave the Chuch at Hephsibah, and that he had been disappointed in attending our meetings by temporary concerns; and that brother Alford give him to understand that he would come to our quarterly Meeting in Augt. but fails to do so; the Church agreed to lay it over again until Septr. Meeting. the Pastor agreed

13 to go and see the sd. Alford and know the cause of his long absence. Brother Josiah Crudup + Jna [?] Parker were appointed Delegates to the next Association, and Johnson Britt in case of failure, and agreed that fifteen shillings be sent from this Church to the Association fnd, and that Johnson Britt prepare a letter to send to the Raleigh Association and return it to our next Meeting for inspection.
Dismissed by letter Sister Nancy Broadwell, bro. Urias Oneals and his Wife, brother Saml. High and his Wife. The Church appointed brother Cade Alford third Deacon.
The case of Lucy a Sister of Colour was then taken up and decided that she should not take to herself another Husband, so long as her former Husband liveth.
The accudation against Lucy for fornication was laid over until the next meeting.
September Meeting 1816
The case of brother Peyton Alford taken up and laid over until next meeting for futher consideration.
The case of Lucy a sister of Colour, laid over for further consideration. Cretia a Sister of Colour, belonging to Col. Hinton petititioned for a Letter of dismission to join some other Church laid over for further consideration. Sister Quinny Shaw nomina-ted to see Sister Salle Wilder and ascertain the reason of her non attendance, and to cite the sd. Sister to attend our next Conference on Saturday before the second Lords day next, and for the aforesaid Sister Shaw to make report thereof.

An accusation brother Jessey Rhodes for drunkenness + dancing, a public offence.
Brother Joseph Britt appointed to see brother Joseph Shaw and know the reason of his absenting himself from our Conference, and report to our next Meeting. Excommunicated Lucy, a Sister of Colour belonging to Willis Bunch for the sin of fornication.
Brother Cade Alford reported the charge a gainst Hardy a brother of Colour not to be correct, therefore is in the estimation of the Church restored to his former priviledges in the Church.
Brother Jno. Parker Jos. Brott + Lott Robertson is appointed a Committee to examines brother Hicks concerning those Charges and report at the next meeting
March Meeting 1818
Agreed by the Church that Hardy a brother of Colour not be fellowshipped until himself + brother Hicks become reconciled, and the difference between themselves be settled satisfactory to each other; neither is brother Hicks admit -ted to commune with us until the same be accomplis -hed. The case of brother Jessey Rhodes laid over until next meeting, brother Ferrel appointed to cite him to attend. Brother Joseph Shaw Senr. gave satisfactory evidence for his non attendance.

A charge brought forward by Johnston Britt against Sally Trawick for Slander + not dealing with him according to Gospel Order, and for saying, if he stayed in the Church she would not; denying the same, and afterward confessing it to be the truth. The case of brother Lott Robertson taken up, and he withdrew his Letter; the Church finds two charges against the sd. brother that of beating his wife, and for the sin of adultery; the Church therefore appointed a Committee composed of the following brethren to deal with brother Robertson accordingly, (viz) John Purifoy John Parker, Johnston Britt, Rightman Hilliard. Duke Strictland, Cade Alford and Amoss Horton. The above Committee Report, that they have taken the case of brother Robertson into consideration, and that the sd. brother has given them satisfaction, therefore the sd. brother Rob.ts is restored to his former privileges in the Church. The report received. A charge brought brother Hicks for drinking to excess, likewise against him and Wife for keeping a dis-orderly House. Brother Britt to cite them to attend at our next Conference.
