MOUNT PLEASANT CHURCH RECORDS

The Meetings of the Particular Baptist Church held at Brother Swan P. Burnett's on the first Sabbath and Saturday before of each succeeding month Commenced 28th Feby. 1829.

________________

Feby., March and April meetings were attended with little success, excepting several expressing a desire to help here as their own homes were too distant for their convenience.

May meeting, after Brethren Isaac Miles and Thomas Stradley had engaged in leading divine service, a door of invitation was opened, when Brother Peter Stradley and Naomi his wife were received by experience.

June Meeting Brethren Moses Freeman and Thos. Stradley having conducted divine services, the Church concluded it would be expedient to meet tomorrow Lord's day, at Mr. Jarretts Ferry, for the administration of the solemn ordinance of Baptism.

Lord's day the Church met as above we trust under the especial influence of the Divine Spirit. Brother and Sister Stradley were Baptized by Brother Freeman in presence of a very large and orderly congregation. Two discourses were afterwards delivered by Brothren Freeman and Thos. Stradley.

July meeting after Divine Service a door was opened but without success. Brother T. Stradley preached.

Saturday 1st August 1829 after Divine Service led by Brethren Freeman and Stradley a door was opened when Brother Samuel Smith was received by letter from Flat Creek Church, N. C., also Sister Nancy Sams from Hominy Church. At this meeting it was considered necessary to try the strength of the Church with the view to become Constituted.

List of Members:

Brethren Sisters
Burnett, Swan Burnett, Frances
Stradley, Thos Sams, Nancy
Smith, Samuel Gasperson, Elizabeth
Stradley, Peter Stradley, Naomi
Lord's day 2nd August 1829 after Divine service led by Brethren Freeman and Stradley, a door was opened, when Sister Mary Stradley was received by letter from England--also Sister Mary Miller from the Yadkin River Baptist Church, N.
