Savannah May 12 1848 His Excellency N. S. Brown
I am unable from Sickness to attend & hold the circuit court in the 14th Judicial circuit Tennessee. I hope therefore you will make a temporary appointment as early as practicable. I have not consulted Micajah Bellock as to his willingness to accept the appointment but suppose he would be and therefore would suggest his appointment as I have no doubt would give general satification having once so presided. The courts convene next monday (3rd monday) but as there will be ^no opportunity to make the appointment in time to reach that court I will make other arrangments for the holding that court in [illegible]. I wish the appointment to be so far general as to hold all the events without limit, as I may be unable to hold either of the three next courts and as it is uncertain when my health may be restored. Send the commission to me & I will have in sent myself by special messenger.
Yours respectfully
James Scott
Judge 14th Circuit Tennessee
I wish it sent to me because I may be in a condition to hold them mys elf
