Wednesday, January 1, 1873 Harriet & I spent "New Years Day" at Friend Jno. N. Coales where we met Jos. H. Jewett & wife and then nieces, the [[]] Howell. Reached home about dark bringing [] Ruth with us in our sleigh as far us our gate. Thursday January 2, 1873 Walter S. Coale, & family dined and spent the day with us also Friend Jno. N. Coales & his daughter Sallie. Weather damp & disagreeable, threatening rain towards evening.

Friday, January 3, 1873. Do not feel well. Went to Jos: H. Jewett's & dined with them. whilst there their nephew ( John Howll) returned having driven his own conveyance from Charlestown, W Va: Jno: Dickinson & Mary E Ransay left for Wellsborough.

Saturday 4 Took our young cow to Kimballs for him to keep for us through the ballance of the winter. Drove to Green Spring and called for a short time.

Sunday, January 5, 1873 Very disagreeable rainy day, spent the entire day at home. Wrote to Jno. & Decatur Dickinson.

Monday, 6 Charles & Billy Coale resumed school duties. Drove down to E M Allen's spent most of the day at the village, the tax tax collector being there by appointment to receive taxes from this district. Went to Saul Days.
