DIARY No 3 as from 20/4/43.

Tuesday April 20th Reveille at 5.30 here got out about 6 AM. Fell in at 6.15. Put aside for trade group. Never done a march or anything a lot of lads sent to different places. Went over to Trade testing mob at 8AM. Just behind the cricket ground. Answered a lot of [que]stions by a corpral[sic]. Apparently everything OK except the [?troupe] maintenance Told they would [?send] the report over to IATTD. Done nothing before dinner. Done PT & some unarmed combat after. Knocked [?off] at 3.15. Only started at 2 PM. [some missing] wrote a letter to Ken but didn't [some missing] to bed early.

[Wednesday missing] April 21st Fell out this morning [some missing] Cpl Parsons for maintenance He [some missing] a big lot to learn off. Di[?] [some missing] all day except read this. Got [some missing] very late too. Also got leave

Wrote Mum Dot. Bill RA.AF. Toddy & [?parcelled] Toddys watch up. posted it on [?Saturday] watch. faint round to see [...] Lola: Stine Darnie Holen there [...] at 10PM & fairly cool day & night.

Thursday April 22nd Went for a march this morning. A few lads went over to get grouped. They got through OK Done marching all day. Not so cold today. Was told leave for weekend. I am on leave from Saturday to 12P.M. Sunday. Will be a bit to do [...] wrote a few letters tonight.

Friday April 23rd Went for a march in rain this morning really cold. Read maintenance through again done [?nothing] all day. Pretty cool. Went [some missing] for 10 minutes. [illegible] our haven't through some gain [...] is running around all day

Saturday April 24th [/Mess detail] spud peeling this morning. Only [some missing] 11.30 & knocked off for day. The p[some missing] I went out to Ides at 4AM [illegible]

posted my letters. Tried to contact Mon Malone but she went home at 1pm Talked with Bill [...] & went to bed about 10pm. Smoked 2 bongs tonight [illegible].

Sunday April 25th Done all my washing today. & after wagga [...] Had a good quiet day. Felt a bit feverish just after dinner think I am getting a cold or something Back to camp about 10PM. Wa[...] for once in camp in Bris tonight.

Monday April 26th Reported to Cpl Paws again this morning. He says he forgot about me. Told me to go to [...] hut & he would conctack[sic] me there if I was to be trade tested was there all day. Not feeling so good today. Very much like fever. Cold all day. Coldest I have ever been. [?Undies] G

a roll call after dinner. Also they not a check up. Possibly be called out in the morning

Tuesday April 27th Called out to go to Chemside this morning. Not feeling too clever. Never left until about 11.15 AM. Got over to Chermside via Storey Bridge about dinner time. Pretty good feed. Lined up after dinner by R.S.M given a big lecture on what we could do & what we couldn't About 30 came over Picked out into 3 squads. No leave tonight Went to bed at 6P.M. feeling pretty crook. Our instructor is Staff Sargent Kennedy a pretty decent sort of joker.

Wednesday April 28th Out at 6AM all rush to get the tent in order Short arm inspection before breakfast Still not feeling so good Put in for leave tonight
