arrived at Capt Mtrois 7 1/2 took breakfast with Mr. Far-
rar, then to Dea. Poor's found the house in joyful confusion
in consequence of an approaching wedding, thence to
Mr. Newmans & Madam Phillips' & then toward Boston.
Mr. Farrar accompaning Mr. Farrar is one who
makes those with whom he converses pleased with
their company and with themselves. His conversation
is replete with sentiment & humor. Blessed be God for
giving me so agreeable a companion, so intimate ever
took Dr. Osgood at Parker's Tavern - called at Classmate
Levan's and took dinner and then for Boston - Med-
ford Turnpike with the canal on the right & the riv-
er on the left very pleasant and agreeable. Called upon
friend Eaton at Dr. Webster's met a coridial receptioin
by our good classmate, spent the night with him
and the next morning he accompanied us to Cam-
bridge. Cambridge appeared very natural. A new
College edifice rises beautiful & majestic with plea-
nise mingled with pain we refelcted upon the
period when in company we ranged these fields
of intellectual improvement. At ten went to
the meeting house to hear the literary (carriers?)
of the day (Lee order of the Day) Many of the perform-
ances could not be heard. The compositions of what
I could hear, was pure & elegant, void of combast,
calculated to please a refined taste.
Learning and beauty ornamented & dignified
the assembly. Dined with a large collection at Mr.
Harland's, spent the evening and night with Dan-
iel. The next morning breakfasted with him at S.C.
saw Gov. Strong {illegible} inquiry about his son's im-
provement at academy, very social. How agreeable
is affability and dignified familiarity in men in
elevated stations. Governor Strong by the mer-
torious must be admired. Saw a thousand
old acquaintances, not many classmates.
