such holy joy bears upon my soul from the divine ra-
diance that encircles the Almighty's throne, that my
soul may remain quiet amid the complicated mis-
fortune of human life. May my thoughts, my affec-
tions be raised from earth to Heaven, when my God,
my Savior lives. May I anchor my hopes upon the
"rock of ages". Relying upon the arm of the mighty God
of Jacob, resting my head upon the bosom of the Redeemer,
may I quietly pass thro' this state of trial, affliction
and finally enjoy that rest, which remaineth for
the people of God.

the day was pleasant, impressed there approbation
of the appearance of the scholars &c - Mr. French
delivered a written affectionate address -
With pleasant mingled with painful emotions
took my leave of the scholars. The Year
wh. I have spent in the Academy has passed
pleasantly away, I think profitably to my-
self, and I hope, not unprofitably to others.
In taking my leave of the scholars, I wish them
well in the name of the Lord. I pray for their
literary improvement, but especially for
their advancement in divine knowledge. I pray
for their temporal happiness; but especially for
their eternal felicity. May they consider the
importance of early piety; set thee, the Lord
constantly before them, be guided by thy
good spirit in the ways of wisdom; May they
live in virtue, die in peace, sleep in Jesus and
awake in glory.
The year past I have read
but little. Of thelanguages however I have
not been unmindful. Read strange pamphlets
and small things together with the following
