just lost all his luggage
in the wreck of the "Pce.
Consort" off Aberdeen.
Near the inn at Golspie I
found Peacock (the factor)
& Mr. Gray (Golspie banker)
they were the two with
whom I had most to do;
we walked up to the Castle
together, & had a chat about
plans for the canvassing
in the little [dry season?].
Felt very strange
being all alone in the
dear old place.
I was lodged in
the Blantyre dressing room.
On Thursday May 16th.
(this day fortnight,) I begun
my canvassing; if in this
case one can use the
expression.
Peacock & Gray
were always with me
& on the last day Hadwen
was also one of the party.
We began by calling
on old Mrs. Houston (Kin-
tradwell) she was highly
delighted at seeing me
& very amiable poor old lady
she is 86 & still has a marv-
ellous memory; fr.
there we called at Crackaig
(the Dudgeons) & some other
place & then did Helmsdale
