Passed last Sunday (28th) here;
Jorcy came in the afternoon;
(he is now quartered at
Windsor having joined his
regiment 1st Life Guards
almost two weeks back)
dined in town with a
new [negter?] Allix (in the
Grenr Gds)

Monday the 29th
was an interesting
day: beginning with a
breakfast at Hampden
Hill [above line] (at Argylls) where Longfellow
(the poet) came; with him
3 daughters; he is a
noble looking creature

[page written vertically] a regular featured bronzed face with
long grey hair & beard; with scarcely
any twang & very good manners; a
little disapp.g in conversation - but pleasant
& of course well informed: I told him
[inserted] (Dufferin C. Howard & Ld Percy were also there)
how very much M. wished to see him
& I trust she will still be able to as he stay
in town about 11 days longer; he left abt
11 & I drove Ian to Chiswick where we
found that the D. of E. was coming to lunch; Cony
