I was told the 2 first
days were bad days for
the "Gentlemen" but on
the 3d (Cup day) they
retrieved their ill fortune.

I came back
to town on Thursday
eveg. with Jorcy & drove
here; having managed
to catch a sore (ulcerated)
throat which has laid
me up here since that
day. The Argylls, & other
members of the family having
been here. M. very
suffering [although?] altogether

for an ulcerated throat; but what
I believe really cured me was the bottle
of port which I have finished in
the last two days.
