(Dr P. was recommended by
Evy who had heard of him
as having saved Ld Belhavens
life when entirely given
up; he has just returned
fr. the deathbed
of poor Lord Shrewsbury
who died the most painless
of deaths; Lady Adelaide
was married by her
fathers bedside to Ld Brownlow;
Dr P. says he looked
like marble while the
service was read, not by
a clergyman but by his
brother Ld Ingestre; poor
kind old "Four Earls" as
[page inserted vertically] they used to call him "There is no [rain?]
in Heaven" he said shortly before his death.)
M. has suffered terribly this [week]
from a carbuncular boil below the left
breast; there has been immense discharge
but the pain is still very great & I
fear this has weakened & discouraged
her very much; however Dr P. holds out
hopes that he will be able to stop these torments.
