Thursday, December 23, 1948 - I made a cake. I washed Uncle Brock's window & hung clean curtains & I washed the kitchen windows and hung clean curtains. I washed my head & rolled up my hair. I dressed a chicken & Mother boiled some custard. Jordon Furiture Company sent out our furniture this afternoon. I bought Mother a cedar-chest for Christmas & Rex a platform rocker & Rex got me a cabinet. So we have had some changing to do. Mother let Robert have her little trunk for his toys. Rex went to town this Morning & he says Jim is still better. I doubt if Jim will ever be well as he hasn't been well for 2 or 3 years but we hope he will get up & be able to be around the house.

Friday, December 24, 1948 - B.J. called & said Jim is worse & the Doctor didn't think he would live over 24 hours. It sleeted some last night & the trees are covered in ice. The roads are not slick but our door-steps are slick. Rex, Robert and I went to town today. Rex & I stopped in to see Jim. They are sure uneasy about him. Evelyn looks awful bad. We went down in town & stayed a while. I had several things to buy. It has rained today. It sure is a cold rain. We ate our lunch at Hugh's. Uncle Brock is worse. Dr. Finley came to see him tonight. He says he is in a bad shape & his heart is bad. He said he might die at any time & he might live a good while yet.
