Thursday, December 9, 1948 - I canned 3 gallons of Beaf today. Jean called & said Mr. Sam Hobgood killed himself today. He jumped in a lake. He is a cousin of Rex. Callie came this afternoon & had me to put on my green dress. She is going of fix it for me. Rex went to Barnett's funeral Home tonight. Mr. Henry Solmon & Mr. Sam Hobgood are both at the funeral home. Rex went by Jim's a little while also.
Friday, December 10, 1948 - Mother & Uncle Brock are not well. Rex went to town today, Court met. Rex came home at noon. Rex & I went to town this Afternoon. We went to Barnett's Funeral Home to Mr. Henry Solmon's Funeral. Mr. Solmon was a brother of Mrs. McCain & an Uncle of Jean's. I wouldn't have gone to the funeral if it hadn't been for them as I didn't know Mr. Solmon. Rex said he knew him. I saw Mrs. Bill Crumbaker & she told me Evelyn was real sick so Rex & I came by there. Lorna was crying and said looked like Evelyn wasn't breathing. She got better before we left. She had 2 bad spells today one this Morning & one this Afternoon.
