they all could be covered with the Inscriptions of the many who ended
their Navigations on it) are the Places which solicit for two [?]
to be constructed upon them; each Pharus to be provided with a
Sloop and Barge; on each of these Pharuses a Fire to be entertained day
and Night, so that its [?] may be an Objefct for the Day, and its
Light, which a Sky Rocket lighted every half hour, for the NIght; the
Construction of these Pharuses should be an octagonal Cavermatte
of two Stores 74 feet diameter; its Walls to be 10 feet at the Bottom, 4
feet thick at the Top and 36 feet high, with Rooms suitable for a hot
Climate to accommodate for its Defence 100 and in the whole Pharus
upon occasion 450 Men, 24 Pieces of Canon, Provision and Ammunition
in Proportion, with great Convenience.

On and in this Casematte is mixed an Obelisk of Carpenter's
WOrk, 214 feet high, its Center containes the Stairs of 500 Steps, which
lead to the Top, on which is to be nailed in a Plat-form with a large Iron
or Brick Stove, contrived in a manner to conceal fuel against Wind
and Weather, send up its Smoak and Flame without Obstruction and
Danger to the Obelisk, to give Signals for Navigators.

Constructions of such kind would not only procure infallible
means for juding of Currents, for accounting of Longitude, keeping a
proper Offing and upon Occasion getting proper Pilots through this
Passage, but would also be an effectual Asistance and Relief from
the Sloops and Barges of either or both Pharuses; beside swing
half the Insurance now paid for Trading Vessels bound through
this Passage.

These Pharuses signalized with the excellent Appellation
of George and Charlotte would externalize the Glory of those Royal
Authors who have streatched out parental Hands to facilitate the
hitherto dangerous and inevitable Navigation of that dreadfull
Promontory and terminate your Majesty's Conquest of that great
Country which sets the western Bounds of the Atlantic Ocean.

The annexed Plan shews a Pharus, partly in Profile;
and partly in its oustide View.

In exact Porject of their Constructions, and whole Expence
as well as all their Advantages guarding and defending, I intend
to lay down at full Extent in my future Report.
