Capitals are learned by observation. Copy
a verse every day. Rhyme determines
the indentation of the lines. Look them
over and watch closely all mistakes.
Get them to read writing and continue
word building. Words ending in ed and
ing. This is perfected in the Fourth Reader.

Fourth Reader: Definitions should be used with older pupils.
Have them write out the opposite meaning.
Now put in a word which will mean the same.
Put in a mark to show how you can change
the sentence and still mean the same.
Notice the prefixes un and less and how
they compare. Keep them picking up
knowledge incidentally. A hint here,
a thought or a suggestion there. Be
well informed. What are surnames?
Reading for general information and
general points should be pursued.
Make pupils close observers.
In the Fourth Reader we may commence
introduction to Word Analysis. Not best as
a regular study but teach in connection
with spelling. Train to word building.
