Julia Brumfield Diaries — 1922

A good day. Jim plowed corn all day. Ben & Josie & Mrs Car come home this evening I was glad to have them at home but so sorry that the Dr could not help her in some way The [?] school closed today. I am glad to have the children at home a while. This evening Mrs. Booker come a while. Mrs Edmons stoped a few minutes Jim & [Lizzie?] and [Loraine?] and Frances & Shirley & [Cary?] Jefferson come by from the Red House. I was glad to see them. I dropped some ink an made a mess of it.

A good day. Cloudy tonight and a little rain. Jim & Ben plowed corn and cut off tobacco hills getting aready to plant tobacco. Mrs Owen carried Alice Thomson & children Mrs Thomson & I and Jane Reynolds to white falls. We did not catch many fish but had a good time. Mrs Car was with Josie. Carrie Reese and the little girls and Kate Harvey come a little while. Virginia H and Doris B come a a while. The children went to the Sulpher Springs. They had a good time Their teachers was with them. They had ice cream.

A cloudy day and some rain. The men and children planted tobacco all day I got dinner. Mrs Car has washed the dishes three times today and churned. That was a lot of help. Josie has bin in bed most of the day Millie & Christenia come a while today. They had bin to [Gretna?] this morning Jane and her boy started to Charlottsville to night.

A rainy day. They finished planting tobacco here today had plenty of plants that was good ones. Josie has bin some better today. I got dinner. Mrs. Car churned and washed dishes. This evening I went to the curant bushes and cheries trees. There was a lot ripe. I phoned Mollie that she could get some currants. Christenia and Millie come but it rained so that they could not gather them. We had beets that was raised this year for dinner today. I will be so glad when we can get vegetables a plenty.
