A good day. Ben went to see Charles this morning. He keeps mighty feeble. Lizzie and Paul Bennett and Reubin Reynolds was here for dinner.
Josie got dinner. She got a nice dinner. Fried ham and eggs tomatoes and potatoes and butter and preserves. She had it all so nice and attractive. I was proud of her fixin so well. I did not do any thing but keep company. Mr and Mrs Hutcherson was here this evenin. I was glad to have them. Lizzie and I went to Carries a while and to George Blairs and staid until bed time. Had a pleasant visit.
10 oclock
A good day. Ben finished his tobacco land to day now he is ready for rain.
Mrs Edmons come this morning and staid a few hours.
Alma Bennett come here last night. She made Paul two shirts to day. Josie and I both had a hand in the dinner.
We planted two rows of tomatoes this evening.
I got one doz aster plants today. Effie Brumfield sent them from Richmond.
9 oclock
Some rain this morning it was badly needed.
Ben and Paul replanted tobacco. Mr Owen was at his brothers near Altavista. He brought a calf home this evening. Josie made Edna a dress to day.
Mrs Bailiss come and got some butter. I worked in the garden a while this evening. Eula Mayhew come and got a few tomato plants and Josies cards to make bats for a quilt.
9 oclock
A good day. Ben and Mr Owen helped Charley Hutcherson thrash wheat half a day a piece. Paul worked on the barns. Josie washed. I got dinner. This evening I went to George Blairs. Denia has a splendid garden. She gave me some corn and tomatoes. Mrs Hutcherson gave me some nice apples to cook.
9 30 oclock
A little rain today.
Ben and Paul topped tobacco a while today.
Josie got dinner. She made a stew and had snaps and cymblins and corn all good. Mrs Owens come a while. We all went and looked at the garden then to the tobacco ground to see the tomatoes and water mellons and bean patch.
I went to Marvins a few minutes. Their cow is sick. I wrote to Evylin Brumfield today.
I have fixed some butter to night for Kate Harvey. [scratchy ink blots] I guess I have the meanest pen about here.
