The purpose of the Second Stage of inquiry, that of collecting such consequences of the hypothesis as can be tested by experiment or observation under select conditions, having been accomplished, the inquiry enters its third stage, that of ascertaining how far the deductions conform to fact, and of judging thereby whether the hypothesis is sensibly right or requires some inessential modification or is to be entirely rejected.
