For my part, I prefer to study mathematics where there is more play for my own faculties and infinitely more beauty. Reverie-meditation being a species of solitaire, is free from the curse of games. It comes most spontaneously with the dawn and the gloaming; but I have found no watch of the nychthemeron that did not enrich it with its own peculiar wealth. Nor is it so solitary as one might thing. It begins passively enough with drinking in the impression of some nook of one of the three Universes. But impression soon passes into attentive observation, observation into musing, and musing into a lively give and take of communion between self and self.
