There are times when you hear a record and realize that this the sound is what you would have made at the time it came out. The record that expresses everything that you wanted to say. This says what I want to say. Listen to this and hear what it is like to be somehere sosimilar as where I am. This is one thing that you always want to have, something that means so much more than it really is. Some say that this is just a Pavement ripoff (but what isn't called that nowadays except Pavement themselves) but it is a second generation of sound, no longer taken in by mimickry, but instead by reincorporating those ideas into something new and vital like the best of music should. This is among the best of music. You need this, I don't say that too often but really you need this.

~Go right now to the record store and get the first Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 record you can find. It's what real music sounds like.

V/A
Taco City Rockers
(Kaniption compilation LP)
For my money, this is one of the finest slabs of wax to come out of '95. Great fuckin' punk rock from San Antonio 1980-1995, much of it done with humor, always a plus in my book. Hell, people as close as Austin never even knew there were punk bands in S.A.! It's a great document, and obviously a labor of love. Lots of diversity, style-wise, some of my fave tracks are the title cut (by Menudocide). Man in the Middle (by Mystery Dates - one of Frank Pugliese's old bands!) and Tough Guy (by Paul Love). Colored vinyl, funny-as-hell liner notes, no-two-alike covers and $5.99! Treat yourself to this, you won't regret it!
__Dave Nickerson, esq.

~By the way: If you haven't picked up a copy of the Huns Live at the Palladium 1979 (EV lp), you are really missing out. It is a must have, especially with another rock' n' roll summer on the horizon.
