A cloudy morning.
Clear this evening.
Ben and Jim could not
do anything much.
John Ward brought us
two buckets of water
from his spring. By twelve
we could get water at home.
We had no mail today.
Heard this evening that
no one had crossed
the island today.
Nellie got dinner.
Ben cut some sallit.
We did enjoy it.
Ben went to Rob
Hubbands this evening.
Will stay all night. I
think Edna miss him
worse than any body
else. Jim went with
Mr. [Peak?] to Renan.
I am about a
sleep. Good night.
Jo Edmons has mesles.

Notes

The "island" is most likely the large island in the Staunton River just south of the community of Long Island. The Virginia Gazateer does not show the name. The Staunton is the name given to an intermediate segment of the Roanoke and map references for it vary.
