Please note that the name of Robert (Toogood) Patterson's mother appears to be Debby Toogood, rather than Selby Toogood.

RCH in KZ

The correct name of Robert (Toogood) Patterson's mother, I suggest, is neither "Selby," nor "Debby." After reviewing other documents, especially the Negro Jim v. William Curren, 1792-1806, pages 1-4, I propose that her name is "Sebby."
The second, third, forth, and fifth letters of her name are "e," "b," "b," "y." The only question for me is the first letter. If one reviews the capital letters "S" and "D" on the above referenced pages of the Negro Jim document, it appears to me that the writer makes his capital "S" and "D" in a very similar manner. A distinguishing feature differentiating them is that with the "S" the final flourish of the pen, leading to the next letter, occurs at the lower margin of the letter, whereas with the "D" it occurs at the upper aspect.
In the Anne Taney document, the first letter of the name of Robert Patterson's mother has the final flourish, leading to the "e," at its lower aspect. Therefore, I suggest that the mother's name is "Sebby."
