Vessel "North Sea"
Sir, 14th July 1859
With reference to your preceeding letter - I beg to acquaint you that the
inquiry into the cause of the loss of the steam Vessel "North Sea" - on
the Coast of Jutland on the 27th March last, was proceeded with on the
13th or 13th Inst before G.H. Graves Esqr Stipendiary Magistrate for the Borough
of Hull and Capt Harris_Nautical Assessor - appointed by the Board
of Trade_when its further hearing was adjourned till an early day
in August, which will be determined by the arrival of the ship
"Dowthorpe" at Cronstadt in which ship Wm Benz Bec, late mate on
Board the "North Sea", _ is now serving.
The proceedings one very accurately {stated} reported in the
annexed portion of the "Eastern Counties Herald" of today's date,
with the exception of the letter to Mr Hugh Milne Herbert to Captn
Kruger - which was not read in Court.
I will forward an account of the expense witnesses in a

Sir, 18 July 1859.
With reference to my letter of the 14' Inst annexed is an Account of expense
of witnesses amounting to £8.3.0.
Thomas Steele & Robt Ellen._ I had to detail as stated in my letter
of the 1st Instant.
I have also shewn the account to the Stipendiary Magis-
-trate who thinks the charges reasonable and proper.
