Inspector of the River and one of my Tide Surveyers of
tracing the finders & sellers of the quantities of Foreign
Tallow undermentioned, which ought to have been delivered
to the Receiver of Wreck - viz
C grs lbs £ s d.
James Parker 2 8 . 13 -- 5 . 8 --
Farm labourer
Thomas Page } Stone 2 . 3 . 17 -- 5 . 10 . --
William Green Gatherers 3 . 25 -- 1 . 16 . 11
The Tallow was found on the Beach on the 1st Instt
by the men above named who reside at the village
of Great Cowden a few miles south of Hornsea. It is no
doubt part of the same cargo, large quantities of which have
been cast on shore, within a few miles of Hornsea,
and clandestinely taken away and sold. Mr John Jackson
Tallow chandler of this Town has deposited with me the
amount he paid for the Tallow -- viz -- £12.14.11 and
sent the man with my Officers to identify the men from
whom he bought the Tallow. It is quite necessary that
an example should be made of all the men engaged in this
transaction to bring the district into a state of discipline
that proper respect may be paid to the Law. And as this
case is without difficulty of proof I await your directions.
