With reference to the 455th section
of the M.S. Act 1856, - and Table 5 there to
annexed - I beg to acquaint you that
in several instances, Captain Metcalfe
the Inspecting Commander of the Coast
Guard at Bridlington acting as my Deputy
has examined parties as thereby directed
respecting Ships & Boats. I will therefore
thank you to inform me whether,
in respect of such examinations he is
not entitled to receive a fee on my behalf

is informed that the Board of Trade
have no objection to appoint Deputy
Receiver where the districts are too
extensive to admit of the Receiver
personal attendance and such
Deputies will be empowered to
charge fees for depositions and
act generally for the receivers
and respect to Capt Metcalfe his
appointment of Deputy receiver
not having been made by this
Board - he cannot charge fees &c
but if the Receiver considers it
necessary that Deputies should
be appointed he will apply
forthwith submitting the names of
those he wishes appointed for their

With reference to the 468 section of the
M. C. Act 1854 herewith I beg to send annexed
a copy of a report made by the master
and the mate of the vessel above named
before Captain Metcalfe R N Inspector Commander
of the Coast Guard at Bridlington is in
respect of which vessel and the cargo
laden on board her consisting of
218 4/8 Quarters of Barley and131 4/8 Quarters
of wheat - certain Boatmen at Bridlington
claim a salvage of £300 - I beg to
acquaint you I have allowed delivery
of the said grains - and the departure
of the vessel on the undermentioned Security
in respect of the said claim of £300 -
viz. Bond annexed from Mr Moxon
for £150 in respect of the Barley - Bond
also annexed from Mr England in respect
of the wheat - and a deposit of sixty five pounds
by the master in respect of the vessel - the
owners of the Cargo informed me that they
