Office of the Light House Engineer
Thirteenth District,
Portland, Oregon
March 1, 1872

Professor Joseph Henry
Chairman Light House Board
Washington, D.C.

Sir:
I have the honor to acknowledge
the receipt of your letter of 13 Feb and
to state that all debts incurred prior to
July 1 for Range-lights, Yaquina Bay
have been paid.
All unavailable balances in my hands were
deposited to the credit of the US Treasurer
at the close of 4th quarter, 1871.
In this connection I would state that certain
repairs or improvements are needed at
Yaquina Light-House. (crossed out - in relation to which I herewith transmit extract from letter of Lt. Ho. Overseer, and estimate of Materials and Labor.)
The cost will be about $600, but no contract
was made to cover materials before 1st of July
1871.
No contract covering labor and freight was made moreover and therefore this amount could come from the Yaquina appropriation, leaving less than $250.
Probably only $200 to come from appropriation for deposit.
An estimate will be forwarded as soon as I
return from certain Engineer duty.

Your obedient servant,
Henry M Robert
Major of Engineers and L. H.
Engineer, Thirteenth District
