The seond part, which classifies reasoning and determines their value, recieved from the eminent English logian, Hobbes, and from the great English philosopher, Locke, the term was borrowed by Kant, and applied by him to designate the peculiar branch of philosophy which he developed and which he regarded as being a sort of logic, mainly.
The word was not invented by Hobbes, however, but was borrowed from Plato who applies it to any science or art that discriminates.
