But if the work is lengthy and has required thought, you will always find, when you have completed it, that you have attained a far more distinct conception of the purpose at which you were all along driving than you had at the outset.
There are, therefore two definitions of any profound inquiry, an initial one defining its purpose as definitely as a beginner can comprehend that purpose, and a final one,
